Welcome to xiangqigo.com (the “Site”). The Site is an online xiangqi (Chinese chess) site operated by xiangqigo.com (“we”, “us”). By browsing the Site or playing xiangqi on it, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the Site.

How we handle data about you is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

01The service

  1. The Site offers free browser xiangqi (Chinese chess): you play against the computer in your browser, with nothing to download and no sign-up.
  2. The Site also offers guides on the rules, how the pieces move, move notation, openings and checkmates.
  3. The Site currently has no paid content and does not sell any virtual items.

02For entertainment only — no real money

  1. Wins, losses and records in the game are just game records. They have no real-world value and cannot be exchanged for cash, goods or services.
  2. You may not use the Site for gambling or for any activity where real money or goods are won or lost, and you may not use results from the Site as the basis for such activity.
  3. You are responsible for following the laws where you live.

03Your game data lives on your device

  1. The Site has no accounts. Game settings, lobby choices and similar data are stored only in the browser you are using.
  2. If you clear your browsing data, use a private window, or switch devices or browsers, that data will be gone. We keep no copy and cannot restore it for you.

04Guides and the computer opponent

  1. Rules explanations follow the rules used by the game on this Site. Tournaments and clubs may rule differently on perpetual check, perpetual chase, draws and the like; where they differ, follow the rules of that occasion.
  2. The computer opponent's moves, hints and difficulty reflect only the judgement of this Site's program. They are for practice and reference only and are not guaranteed to be the best moves.

05Intellectual property

  1. Unless stated otherwise, the code, design, board and piece character illustrations, text and board diagrams on the Site are our copyright. Third-party assets, such as the piece font, are used under their own licences.
  2. You are welcome to share links to pages on the Site. You may not copy, republish or reproduce the Site's content, or use it commercially, without our written permission.

06Acceptable use

  1. Do not interfere with or disrupt the Site in any way, including attacking our servers, spreading malware or trying to bypass security measures.
  2. Do not use automated tools to scrape the Site in bulk or put excessive load on our servers. Normal indexing by search engines is fine.
  3. Do not use the Site for anything unlawful.

07Links to other sites

The Site links to third-party websites. We do not control third-party sites' content or data practices; please read their own terms and policies.

08Changes to the service

  1. We may add, change or remove game content and features at any time.
  2. We may suspend the service for maintenance, faults or reasons beyond our control, and we may shut it down permanently.

09Disclaimer and limitation of liability

  1. The Site is provided free of charge and “as is”. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that its content is entirely accurate.
  2. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any direct or indirect loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site. Where the law nevertheless makes us liable, our total liability is limited to USD 10.

10Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date. If you keep using the Site after a change, you accept the updated Terms.

11Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan, and the parties agree that the Taiwan Tainan District Court has jurisdiction in the first instance. If you are a consumer, any mandatory rights you have under the laws of the place where you live are not affected.
